When to see a doctor

When to see a doctor before or during strength training: screening situations, red-flag symptoms, and what is usually not urgent.

Training and medical care

Most people can train safely without special workups, but some situations warrant medical input before or during training. Chronic disease does not always mean no exercise.

Before you start

  • cardiovascular disease
  • hypertension
  • diabetes
  • joint/spine issues
  • long break from activity (especially 40+)

During training: seek care for

  • chest pain or pressure
  • fainting
  • unusual breathlessness
  • concerning heart rhythm symptoms
  • persistent joint pain or loss of function
  • unexplained prolonged fatigue

BALANS in practice

Medical support should make training safer—not stop it without reason.
